Wall Fire dispatch received numerous calls reporting a working fire at
Allied Building Products located at 2025 State Highway 34. South Wall
Fire-Rescue was dispatched at approximately 11:45 am. The first
arriving fire units reported a working fire in the two story
commercial building, constructed of corrugated steel and masonry. A
Wall Township general alarm was transmitted, bringing Glendola Fire
Company, Wall Fire Company #1 and Point Pleasant Beach Fire Department
as the FAST unit.
5" LDH was deployed for a water supply and an aggressive interior
attack of the fire commenced by South Wall units, with assistance from
Wall Township's fire inspectors. The heavy fire conditions and quickly
advancing fire forced the incident commander, Deputy Chief Casey
Larrison, to order units to retreat to a defensive operation.
Additional alarms were transmitted for tower ladders, extra engines
for water supply and manpower for relief purposes. The temperature of
the day ranged from the mid to upper 90's.
Tower ladders that operated included South Wall 100' tower ladder,
Point Pleasant Beach 100' tower ladder, Wall Fire Company #1 75'
aerial, Spring Lake Heights 100' tower ladder, Manasquan Hook & Ladder
100' tower ladder and Glendola Fire Company 95' tower ladder. These
units released a deluge of water onto the heavy fire conditions.
The inundation of water continued for approximately 60 minutes, after
which a track hoe was placed into service to dismantle the remains to
expose pockets of fire located under the corrugated steel and concrete
flooring. Fire units suppressed fire throughout the night and most of
the following day.
Additional events that occurred at the scene were the coordination of
events by Wall OEM, including evacuations, rehab for firefighters and
other emergency workers, air sampling, law enforcement and traffic
diversion plans. A massive contingent of EMS was also on scene.
