 7-12-06 - Clifton Multiple Alarm

7-12-06 - Clifton Multiple Alarm - 341 Clifton Ave

Shortly after 430pm on Wednesday July 12th 2006 the Clifton NJ Fire Department responded to 341 Clifton Ave near Main St on a reported building fire. With a firehouse 1 block away, first due units reported fire showing from the roof area of the building. With the fire originating in a 1st fl restaurant, and then involving several void spaces in the building, additional alarm levels were requested.

The fire quickly spread to the cockloft of the 1sty set back section of the building. Deteriorating conditions and structural modifications prevented safe interior operations and thus an exterior operation was ordered. Extensive mutual aid was requested as the fire went into the evening hours. Around 630pm smoke was visible from the attic area of an exposure B building on the Main St side of the fire. Mutual aid companies quickly entered the building and opened up the rear walls to prevent spread.

Several firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion but none were transported.
